Dance Residency Brief

South Tipperary County Council Art Service and Tipperary Excel Arts & Cultural Centre is working in partnership to develop a Dance Residency which will be based at the Tipperary Excel. A dance artist will be appointed as Resident with the brief of establishing a Youth / Community Dance Group(s) for South Tipperary. The dance resident will be based at Tipperary Excel Arts & Cultural Centre but would also work outside of the Centre in South Tipperary, with a number of groups (to be determined). The outcome of the project will be agreed between all parties, but it is envisaged that it should lead to some form of event. As part of the residency the dance artist will have the opportunity to develop their own art practice or project through use of agreed studio time at Tipperary Excel and it would be expected that the artist make provision in their proposal for research and development.

The aims of the residency are to:

Develop contemporary dance as an art form in South Tipperary. Develop capacity of local young dance artists
    • Provide professional development for a dance artist through use of the Tipperary Excel Dance Studio
    • Develop capacity of Tipperary Excel as an education and outreach resource for professional dance
    • Promote Tipperary Excel through the establishment of a Youth / Community Dance Group(s).
    • Develop a National Reputation for the Arts Centre as a centre of Youth / Community Dance
